Who We Are

About Us in Brief

United Kenya Rising (UKR) is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) working with vulnerable families in Kakamega and Vihiga counties to overcome poverty and build sustainable, dignified lives. Through our three-year Family Care Model, we empower families across five key pillars: Education, Livelihoods, Health, Agriculture, and Dignified Homes. By walking alongside families and partnering with communities, we create long-term impact and nurture resilience. At UKR, we believe that Pamoja Twainuka – Together We Rise

How We Work/Implementation

Our Thematic Areas (5 Guiding Stars)

Education

Increase the number of school graduates equipped with knowledge and skills to effectively transition to employment and entrepreneurship.

Agriculture

Increasing food security in families by improving farm productivity through the integration of relevant farming technologies and agricultural training.

Livelihood

Equip vulnerable parents, caregivers, and families with financial literacy and technical skills for economic independence.

Dignified Homes

To increase the number of families living dignified lives by improving home structures and providing basic needs

Health and Sanitation

Improve health outcomes and well-being of vulnerable families through health advocacy

I used to get rained on especially at night in my one roomed grass thatched house making it hard for my family to sleep. We used to cook from the same house. I ended up developing chest problems due to smoke inhalation. Thanks to UKR, we now have a new house, with a separate kitchen and washroom. We live in dignity

I used to practice horticulture in an amateur way but when I was enrolled in the UKR Rotary Global Grant project, I changed my way of doing agriculture. I am proud they have taught me very well how to prepare organic manure. I have also learned how to properly distribute vegetables in my farm and plan my farm very well.
