“From an early age, I’ve been captivated by the power of the sun and its ability to uplift my spirit. Equally, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for buildings, drawn to their ability to create ambiance and offer shelter.
This has guided my passion towards becoming a contractor. While I am enthusiastic about overseeing construction projects, my true aspiration lies in the hands-on aspect of constructing structures that provide essential shelter, “said Vincent.
Coming from the interior parts of Vihiga County in Shamalago, attending primary school in the locality and participating in some village activities, his involvement in community service begun as soon as he was old enough.
By the time he was joining high school he was familiar with working as a handy boy in building semi-permanent mud houses, which are popular in the village. The construction usually involves a small number of villagers who join efforts to ensure they all live in decent houses. The knowledge Vincent has comes from this.
Having gained the basics of what building a decent living structure entails, Vincent is now looking ahead, focusing on much advanced structures. He wants to build modern homes, schools and even business entities.
Lucky for Vincent, after great performance in the high school exit examinations KCSE, he has gained admission to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University to pursue bachelors in construction management.
Vincent is enthusiastic about the construction industry. While awaiting to join campus, he has volunteered in a road construction company as a handyman and the experience, as he shares has been epic! He has had the opportunity to closely work with professional contractors, whom he has shared some of his construction ideas with.
What keeps Vincent drawn to building and construction is the desire to make people’s lives more bearable since building a decent house can be quite costly. As he believes, “Making people’s life cheaper makes you richer,” he dreams of coming back to the locality to start his own construction company.
Vincent’s father has his entire hopes on Vincent’s ability to transform Shamalago village, and is confident with UKR’s support his son will achieve his dreams.
Vincent, is optimistic that he will be able join campus and realize his dreams. Meanwhile, for his dream he is visualizing it. Speaking it and working on it.
