Water is an important component in every household including the families we serve. Water runs nearly all activities in these households.
Most of the families in our program access water from streams and rivers, some relying heavily on rain water. However, the water from these bodies aren’t quite safe for consumption hence the need to ensure families have access to clean and safe water to drink.
UKR has scaled up efforts to ensure families have access to clean and safe water. Through in-kind donations from our partners Water Equals Life, we received water filters that will help us achieve that. The water filters are easy to use and remove unwanted impurities from water such as sediment, taste and odor, hardness and dangerous bacteria.
The project, now in its 2nd phase, has seen 180 families receive water filters, with more families expected to receive them in the 3rd phase.
The water filters are also a plus in the households as it will help families prevent water borne diseases and stay in good health.
Officers from our Public Health and Sanitation Department have been instrumental in the issuance process, offering education on the use, maintenance and management of water filters before giving the water filters to the respective families.
This has helped the families get a clear understanding on how to use the water filters which in turn helps them use the product for such a long time.
On receipt, most families acknowledged that the item is going to improve the health and sanitation standards in their homes.
“We used to boil water before drinking. At times we apply water purifiers to drinking water which are very costly. This water filter is going to be a game changer and help me have clean and safe water for consumption and domestic use. Thank you so much UKR,” Maureen Adhiambo said on receiving the water filter.
