Kelvin lives and breathes fashion. From the way he dresses to how he speaks about his craft, style is not an accessory in his life, it is his language. Every detail, from his shoes and trousers to his T-shirts and hairstyle, comes together effortlessly, reflecting a keen eye for design and an unmistakable personal brand.
For Kelvin, fashion is dynamic and cyclical. “I love fashion because it keeps changing,” he says. “What we see today as fashion existed before; the difference is in the materials, interpretation, and how trends are reinvented.” This evolving nature of the industry is what excites him most and continues to fuel his creativity.
An alumnus of the UKR TVET Scholarship Program, Kelvin is steadily making his mark in the fashion and design industry. He is driven by a desire to shape culture, influence society positively, and help individuals and organizations express their identity through fashion and branding.
Branding, in particular, is an area he has intentionally refined, viewing it as a powerful tool for clarity, visibility, and recognition.
Currently, Kelvin runs a branding and design shop where he offers a range of services, including small and large-scale printing for organizations, branded merchandise production, garment creation, and logo design.
Beyond this, he is also involved in emceeing and organizing fashion-related events, initiatives that allow him to showcase talent, create platforms for creatives, and connect fashion with community engagement.
Kelvin is quick to acknowledge that his journey would not have been possible without the critical support of UKR. He speaks of the organization with deep gratitude, noting that it holds a special place in his heart.
UKR supported his education through its scholarship program from primary school to high school and later through college, following the loss of his father and grandmother at a young age.
He pursued a Diploma in Fashion and Design at Kisumu Polytechnic, where UKR’s support covered school fees and essential course requirements. This support, he says, was transformative.
“The education I received took me to another level. Life began to take shape, and I finally had a sense of direction,” Kelvin reflects.
Inspired by the opportunities he has received, Kelvin is committed to giving back to his community. One of his immediate plans is to print sports jerseys for local teams as a way of supporting young people and nurturing talent at the grassroots level.
Looking ahead, Kelvin envisions expanding his business into a fully equipped workshop where he can train others in fashion and design, with a particular focus on textile and apparel production. Through mentorship and skills transfer, he hopes to empower more young people to build sustainable livelihoods within the creative industry.
